How To Research Profitable Niches – Not Popular Niches.
Entrepeneurs are creative, it’s in their nature and they really can’t do anything else. Everything they look at stirs those creative juices. They see possibilities and ways to amend, adapt and re-create. They see new perspectives and ways to improve the presentation, the process and the throughput for everything.
There’s just one simple little thing they are stone-dead bad at … Research.
The single biggest problem new online entrepeneurs have is trying to pick a niche that will make money. Re-creating and adapting an existing niche is easy but picking one that is a potentially profitable niche is by far the most difficult challenge facing your creativity.
A typical scenario goes something like this …
You’re almost asleep and suddenly, like a bolt from the blue, you get an awesome idea for a niche. You’re wide awake now, full of excitement and logging into your internet account.
- First, you go buy that great domain name. The one you know everyone will recognize instantly.
- Then, you spend minutes, even as much as an hour doing all kinds of amateurish keyword research.
Next, you start building your shiney new website and you load it with fresh, original, newly created content. Your creative juices are flowing, your hot, on fire and words are pouring out of you. Page after page, of catchy headlines, buzzwords and those all important keywords. You knit, and you weave your keywords through it all and week one passes. You have 10 pages of new content, week two and it’s up to 30 pages and it’s time to look for the money.
- Finally, you decide to monetize your shiny new website. You check affiliate systems, ebay products, amazon, clickbank … and then, after all that work, you discover … ”The market you picked is a DUD“ You just wasted DAYS and WEEKS of your valuable time, because you did everything backwards.
And that’s the number one reason why pepped up, motivated, creative online entrepeneurs fail … because picking a profitable niche is far more important than picking a popular niche.
So, how do you research profitable niches?
Well, it’s simple really … you just reverse the order.
The SBI philosophy is covered by C.T.P.M … Content – Traffic – PreSell – Monetize. And that’s great when it comes to actually building traffic. The visitor traffic that will eventually generate the income you want your profitable niches to produce.
But YOU have to think about the end result first, research the profit potential or all that traffic will be worthless.
You have to know where the money is going to come from. Because without the money, you will lose interest. You will lose motivation and your creativity will stall. It may stagger along like some drunk trying to find their way home, but eventually, inevitably you will lose interest and all that time and money will have been for nothing.
After all the money is why you’re here. You’re not some philanthropist creating and disseminating information, tips, techniques and ideas for the good of humanity. No; you’re just like the rest of us, you’re trying to earn a crust and make a living.
- When you reverse the order, everything else drops elegantly into place.
- After you decide where the money is coming from, getting content is the next simple step.
- Then once you have the content you do proper keyword research.
- Finally, once you know where the money is and you have the content and you’ve defined the search friendly keywords to optimize your content, then and only then do you finally buy a domain name based on your research.
When you think about monetization first, you don’t waste your valuable time on un-profitable niches.
And profit is what it’s all about … If you are constantly wasting your time time running around in circles, doing everything backwards, buying domains and building content before you know where the money will come from, then you are wasting your time and creativity.
Researching profitable niches the RIGHT way isn’t easy. Well, it’s not easy for most, but reversing the order will focus your creative energies.
You can still have great ideas, still be creative, but concentrating on the end result will help you learn how to focus those ideas, streamline them, adapt them and drill into those profitable niches to uncover the gold.

The one thing everyone worries about is 'Can I Do This', can I make my own website?
It's been over a year now since I started my first website, which ranks within the top 1% of sites on the net and receives up to 1500 visitors per day. I now have a second site, and plans for a third before the summer of this year. I no longer work from home in the evenings and my income is constantly growing. Right now, it's double what I was making when I was standing behind a chair."~ Michelle Schill - Style Hair Magazine
